Best birthday ever

I’ve had the best day. today I reached the ripe old age of 35. Admittedly, I never thought I would be seeing in 35 missing internal organs and going through the menopause…but hey, I’m still here aren’t I?

I’ve been really touched at the effort my family and friends have gone to. I don’t have enough room to catalogue everything sent. My mother in law gave me $300 and told me not to spend it on my daughter. Pocket money! I felt like a teenager and spent a happy morning at the shops (sitting down every 20mins to keep strength up) and blew the whole lot. Bargain of the day has to be finding Kate Spade neon pink ballet flats reduced from $140 to $35. Even the cashier ran off to put some aside to try on in her lunch hour.

You know you’re transitioning into an old fart when you happily spend your birthday money on homewares. I bought a Gordon Ramsey for Royal Doulton serving platter and cups and saucers for entertaining (no one under the age of 30 uses the term “entertaining” unless they’re an escort) I can hear my dad laughing all the way from England.

The best presents were from my husband and daughter: a necklace and some framed pictures from our holiday at Port Fairy. My daughter even made the wrapping paper.

It all reminds me of everything that I’m fighting for…
